Pictures and
Explanations

Please do not
worry if your pictures
are not exactly
the same as
these. We will
all have our own
individual results.
Your optometrist
will explain any
differences to you.

You've had your Ocular Health Examination, so what does it all mean? Below you will find an explanation of the different parts of the examination. Should there be anything you don't understand, please feel free to ask your Optometrist.

Eyecap Digital Photography
The picture is an image of the inner lining of the eye called the retina. The retina acts in a similar way as to the film in a camera.

Heidelberg Retinal Topography (HRT)
The HRT test scans your optic nerve for any signs of Glaucoma. Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve causing the natural cup shape to become bigger and deeper. These changes in shape occur as the nerve becomes damaged and causes you to lose your vision. The HRT test measures how 'cup-shaped' your nerve is and compares it with others to see if it is normal. Each time you are seen, it compares the data, shows changes and predicts any future damage.

Visual Field Analysis
An incomplete visual field can signify many different conditions from cataract to glaucoma. It may also reveal more serious conditions affecting the brain and is a test frequently used by Consultant Neurologists.

Goldmann Tonometry
The eye has an ocular pressure, like the pressure in a tyre. A normal pressure would be between 10 to 22 mmHg, should this measurement be either lower or higher than this range, it would warrant further investigation to ascertain the cause.
